Born in Liepaja, Latvia, on August 22,1934, Irene was one of 4 children in a family that experienced the turmoil of  WWII. The family emigrated from Latvia (1940) and moved to Poland. From there they journeyed to Germany, where they lived close enough to Berlin to hear the detonation of the bombing of the city as the war came to an end. Life was not easy for Irene during those days. In 1949 she lost her twin sister, Ruth, and 6 years later she lost her father. Her journeys were not over yet. In 1956, one year after her Dad passed away, Irene, her mother and her little brother immigrated to the USA. She married Victor Dzintarnieks in 1958 and thus ended up living in Long Island for the rest of her life. Irene went through two marriages, and lost her second husband, Lenny Mackey, to a sudden, unexpected massive heart attack.

The event that seemed to strike her hardest than all the other trials was the loss of her youngest son, David.  Irene suffered greatly at that time, but in time she drew closer to her only remaining son, Gunnar, with whom she developed a true "friendship" in her latter years.

In mid August 2005, she developed some discomfort in her abdomen and loss of energy and appetite. Subsequent tests revealed a 9cm growth on her liver. She was admitted into Good Samaritan Hospital on September 6, 2005, where she left her earthly body at 9:23PM, September 13, 2003.

Irene, nicknamed Schultzie, will be missed by many friends and relatives. Her vitality, energy, enthusiasm, and zest for life touched everyone with whom she interacted..

The crowning event in her life was the day she received Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. While she celebrated her 71st birthday on August 22, 2005, she experienced the New Birth at Noon, September 5, 2005. Praise the Lord for His everlasting Mercy!

Knowing that her physical condition was terminal, Irene asked to ensure that the 23rd. Psalm would be noted on her funeral card.

No one expected that her wish would be granted quite so soon.

The viewing and the services
were conducted at Moloney's Funeral Home in Hauppauge,
the same place that attended to David's and Lenny's needs.

Many beautiful arrangements decorated the parlor.

This collage consisted of
pictures commemorating
Irene's entire life.

The interment ceremony was
held at St. Patrick's Cemetary

David's remains are at the right. Lenny's in the middle, and
Irene's at the left.

The Family of Irene would like to extend our appreciation for the many cards, flowers,
and expression of sympathy at this time of loss. Your presence at the services was
a great encouragement to us.

Central Islip was Irene's
"town" since 1958

This was her home since Victor
completed its construction
in (approx) 1963

The address was
24 Hoffman Lane

When Irene bought this car two years
ago she told Gunnar that this would
be her last car.

The doggie in the rear was Irene's
daily companion

Good Bye, Schultzie!
We will miss You!
